Hi there,
Are you ready to take the next step to help address the housing crisis?
Home ownership is unattainable for most households in the Lower Mainland. While provincial and federal governments are doing what they can to enable affordable and rental housing, slow municipal approvals are stalling the development of housing options for people with low and middle incomes.
Between now and the municipal election in October 2022, how can you and I work more closely with municipal partners to help unlock affordable and market rental housing projects? Starlight is working with the City of Burnaby on 1,200 purpose-built rental homes at Lougheed Village. Reliance is working with the City of Vancouver on 478 purpose-built rental homes at Burrard Station. What more can you and I do to help unlock rental projects this year ?
Housing is the rock on which one builds a life. Being homeless or unstably housed threatens mental health. And, affordable and market rental housing have proven time and again to contribute to significant economic impacts, including increases in local purchasing power, job creation and new tax revenues.
During the last municipal election cycle in 2018, development of housing options was a key election promise in most municipalities. However, progress has been slow and supply is significantly behind provincial targets. The short supply of rental homes has caused the most vulnerable members of our community to find themselves without a place to live.
How can we do more to understand why progress has been slow? How can we help municipal Councils and staff bring abundant creativity and do everything it takes to address the housing crisis? How can we help municipalities chase targets with every tool they’ve got? How can we support municipal staff and Councils to take risks?
Our team at Channel is ready to take the next step to help address the housing crisis…
We plan to unlock 1,500 rental homes this year.
We are grateful to work in partnership.
We have first-class relationships with private developers, municipal staff, funding partners, and non-profit groups.
We listen and collaborate to develop creative solutions.
We find ways to lift every project higher.
Clients consistently tell us that they love and feel proud of what they accomplish working with us.
The next municipal election is less than 18 months away. A year from now, six months before the election, we expect Councils will start to shy away from making decisions. How can we support municipal colleagues as they go boldly and take action?
If you need help, please give us a call.
Kind regards,
